Agents nibble at edges of migrant caravans

Although the rag-tag caravan of impoverished and unarmed migrants is almost a thousand kilometers away from the U.S. border in Mexico's deep south and could take weeks to reach the United States border on foot, Trump raised the specter of an imminent and violent "invasion" in what many observers saw as a crude attempt to rally his nativist supporters.

Shannon Bream posted the filing from her social media account.

While the migrant caravan making its way north may have dwindled somewhat in numbers, more groups are coming along behind.

The Immigration and Nationality Act says that anyone who arrives in the USA "whether or not at a designated port of arrival" may apply for asylum if he or she has a "well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group or political opinion".

The lawsuit demands that the federal government allow the migrants to plead for asylum, but there is no evidence that President Donald Trump intends to prevent the migrants from asking for asylum. They do that with us, they're going to be arrested for a long time. But if this highly publicized caravan mostly fails to make it to the USA border, there will be far less incentive for Central Americans to try to replicate this in the near future.

The biggest loophole drawing illegal aliens to our borders is the use of fraudulent or meritless asylum claims to gain entry into our great country. "I give up. How is this real?". Michael Fisher, who was Chief of the Border Patrol from 2010 to 2015, said that during his time in office, Guardsmen mostly focused on tasks that allowed Border Patrol agents to better do their own jobs, including surveillance and intelligence gathering missions.

It remained unclear whether the first caravan will make a turn east to Mexico City, or try to reach the nearest and most risky stretch of border, which lies nearly directly north. Divisions began to appear about what route to take.

Trump said he was not anti-immigrant but wanted immigration to be completely brought under control.

Mexican official says there's an election link to caravan
Another caravan of up to 2,000 people is on its way from Tapachula to Huixtla in Mexico's Chiapas state, which borders Guatemala. The caravan is "like an invasion", Trump said Thursday, claiming that numerous members are men "we don't want in our country".

"What I don't want is I don't want these people throwing rocks", Mr Trump told reporters outside the White House. USA soldiers will be armed and President Trump warned caravan members against throwing rocks or using other force against them.

The second caravan, also of about 1,000 to 1,500 people, is now in Mapastepec, Chiapas.

"We're going to catch, we're not going to release", Trump said. Because of court backlogs, some cases take years to complete, and limits on indefinite detention of children result in many families being released in the meantime.

Defense officials have repeatedly emphasized the troops at the border are there to support civil authorities and that they are not expected to come into any contact with migrants.

Migrants who cross illegally are generally arrested and often seek asylum or some other form of protection.

President Donald Trump's decision to send as many as 15,000 troops to the southern border has drawn sharp and unusual criticism from former military leaders, who have called the deployment "wasteful" and raised worries that the president might be using the military as a political tool to influence the midterm elections just days away.

Mexico is now faced with the unprecedented situation of having three caravans stretched out over 300 miles (500 kilometers) of highways in the southern states of Chiapas and Oaxaca, with a total of about 6,000 migrants.
