Ivanka Trump Defends Using Private Email Account For Government Work

President Trump has repeatedly criticized Clinton over her use of personal email and a private server while she was secretary of state, saying she should be investigated and spurring chants of "Lock her up" from his supporters. There were no deletions. There is no attempt to hide. 'There's no equivalency to what my father's spoken about'.

Ivanka said commingling personal and government material wasn't strictly prohibited, citing legal advice about an easy and common way to remedy it. "So, there's no connection between the two things", she said.

It is not illegal for White House officials to use a personal email, but they must forward any official messages to a government account within 20 days for preservation, and there are rules against sharing classified information on personal accounts.

Mrs Trump, who serves as an adviser to her father, Donald Trump, said there was "no equivalency" between her situation and that of Mrs Clinton, who lost the 2016 presidential election days after the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced it was investigating newly discovered emails sent to or by the Democratic candidate. They're all stored on the White House system.

Ivanka may also face scrutiny from Special Counsel Robert Mueller as he moves forward with a Russian Federation probe that Ivanka said he should wrap up soon.

Asked whether Mueller's probe should be allowed to continue, Ivanka Trump said: "I think it should reach its conclusion. I think it's been a long time that this has been ongoing, but I want it to be done in a way in which nobody could question that it was hurried or rushed", she said.

But 'we're well beyond that point, ' she added.

But Ivanka insisted "there really is no equivalency" between her situation and Hillary's.

Are comparisons to Hillary scandal unfair?

Speaking with ABC News' Deborah Roberts in Wilder, Idaho, where she's promoting STEM initiatives alongside Apple CEO Tim Cook, Ivanka Trump maintained that all of the emails on her private account were properly archived and contained no classified information.

The FBI found classified information in some of the emails.

Use of a personal account for government business potentially violates a law requiring preservation of all presidential records.

Asked about her father's authorization of lethal force at the border, Trump initially said that was not on the table.
