Israel misgav Am lebanon border tunnel hezbollah

United Nations peacekeepers said they increased patrols on the Lebanese-Israeli border on Tuesday after Israel announced an operation against what it said were Hezbollah infiltration tunnels.

The Israeli operation comes hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a last- minute trip to Brussels to meet Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Netanyahu's comments came after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched earlier Tuesday an open-ended operation to locate and destroy the Hezbollah-built tunnels crossing from southern Lebanon into northern Israel.

Conricus said Israeli forces up north have been put on "heightened alert" but no reserve forces have been called up, and the area around the northern Israeli city of Metula, which is next to the Lebanese border, has been declared a closed military zone.

Israel released video footage of digging and pile-driving equipment at work in unidentified locations with trees and bushes in the background.
