Meanwhile, according to the reports in the Times of India, Rohit Sharma is travelling back to India to attend his wife Ritika and the baby girl.

Rohit Sharma will miss the New Year Test against Australia, beginning on January 3, owing to the birth of his daughter.

"He will join the ODI squad on the 8th of January 2019, when the team begins their preparation for the ODI series starting 12th January", read the statement on BCCI's official website.

Rohit and wife Ritika became proud parents to a baby girl on Sunday.

It is interesting to note that every Indian team player has named Rohit as the most irresponsible member of the team for forgetting things like his passport and other belongings, but Rohit has said that all this is going to change. Those in the know of things told TOI: "It would've been great to have him (Rohit) around". Tactically, he brings so much to the side and then his batting provides the right kind of balance to the side.

Rohit Sharma had earlier missed the second Test match against Australia at Perth due to an injury, making the SCG Test the second game he will miss in the series.

In Rohit's absence, India have a number of options for the Sydney Test. Vihari could return to the middle order with either Vijay or Rahul coming back into the side, or the seam-bowling allrounder Hardik Pandya could directly replace Rohit at No. 6.
