Joe Staley joins in on recruiting pitch for Antonio Brown

The team's President of Football Operations, Art Rooney II, spoke to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about the future of Brown with the team.

Rooney added that it was "hard to envision" Brown still being with the team when training camp opens in July. All options are on the table.

On the same day, Brown responded to criticism from former teammate Ryan Clark, who said on ESPN that the Steelers need to trade Brown. He also said the team is not closing the door on the possibility of smoothing things over with Brown, but he is not optimistic that will happen. His absence reportedly followed a heated dispute with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. "If we decide something has to be done, we'll figure out how to deal with that".

Brown remains under contract with the Steelers through the 2021 season.

While there are countless teams that should be interested in a player of Brown's caliber, trading him won't be simple. However, Brown will be 31 when the 2019 season kicks off so if the asking price is too high, San Francisco may not be interested. He'll turn 31 in the summer. This won't be resolved anytime soon - March at the earliest.

Adding numbers alone won't solve the problems the Steelers had previous year, but the fact Tomlin's considering structural changes is a sign that he realizes he needs to adapt himself. "All options are on the table. We good over here", he replied curtly. "So, there's no reason why they have to hurry and make a decision right now, which would be a decision made out of weakness and made out of vulnerability".

Brown ranks second in Steelers history behind Hines Ward in career receptions (837), receiving yards (11,207) and touchdown catches (74).
