US House Democrats Reopen Russiagate Probe, Send Mueller Dozens of Transcripts

The intelligence committee also voted Wednesday to send Mueller the transcripts from the panel's earlier Russian Federation investigation.

Trump in his state of the union address Tuesday said "ridiculous partisan investigations" could harm the economy. Schiff has said repeatedly he wants to subpoena Deutsche Bank, which did business with the Trump Organization. "If there is going to be peace and legislation, there can not be war and investigation".

The new Democrat-controlled House Intelligence Committee met for the first time Wednesday and wasted no time in making some moves. "We are not going to be intimidated or threatened by the president to withhold any legislative advancement if we do our proper oversight - we're going to do our proper oversight", he said.

Congressman Adam Schiff outlined a five-point plan for the committee's investigation, encompassing everything from Russia's election interference to the question of whether foreign governments have leverage over Trump, his relatives or associates.

"Unfortunately, these and numerous other avenues of inquiry were not completed during the last Congress", Schiff said in his statement. The aide spoke on condition of anonymity because the committee's business is confidential.

"There's no need to wait until they are all finished to release any of them", he said.

Schiff has indicated that he will re-open parts of the committee probe, which Republicans closed last March, concluding there was no evidence of conspiracy or collusion between Russian Federation and Trump's presidential campaign. The Democratic chairs of the House Foreign Affairs and Oversight committees have previously indicated their committees would investigate some of the administration's policy choices.

Mueller's investigators had access to the "substance" of the transcripts, but couldn't level perjury charges until they were transmitted by the committee, panel chairman Rep.

Mueller requested Stone's interview transcript past year and the panel voted to release it in December. Stone was indicted a month later on seven counts of false testimony, obstruction and witness tampering; he has pleaded not guilty.

It is unclear if Mueller has since requested any other transcripts, or if he has already seen any of them.

House Republicans made a "last-minute play trying to avoid naming people to the committee so that these official transcripts couldn't be sent over to Mueller", the former federal prosecutor noted.

Republican members of the intelligence committee had hoped to release to the public transcripts from its unclassified interviews - which account for the vast majority - but the motion was voted down, said Representative Michael Conaway, R, who ran the committee's GOP-led Russian Federation probe.

The panel also voted down a GOP request to subpoena "witnesses whose testimony Democrats previously sought", according to a statement from Republican members. Schiff has released a statement containing the parameters for the House Intelligence Committee's investigation into Russian Federation election interference.
