Elizabeth Warren announces United States 2020 presidential campaign

But it is the story of Warren's family that also had the 2020 candidate facing fresh questions about her credibility this week.

Even before she had taken to the stage, President Donald Trump's 2020 campaign team had responded calling her a fraud.

The 10 top local news stories from metro Boston and around New England delivered daily.

After her speech in Lawrence, Warren will head that same afternoon to an organizing event in Dover, New Hampshire. Former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg boasts he has the money to run a serious campaign and proven crossover appeal - he first got elected mayor as a Republican, after all.

Warren will not go into her presidential announcement with the wind at her back, however.

However, when all is said and done, almost two dozen Democrats are expected to enter the fray, with others like Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, former Vice President Joe Biden, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley, California Congressman Eric Swalwell and former Texas Congressman Beto O'Rourke having signaled they're considering a run.

But so far, Warren has not offered a unique argument as to why she can best beat Trump.

LeBron James picks Kevin Durant first for All-Star Game
Aldridge went ahead of four other all-star players and Dwayne Wade and Dirk Nowitzki who are special additions to the roster. During the player selection, LeBron made a decision to take Anthony Davis with his first pick in the second round.

In fact, she kept learning about his health problems from news stories and was very anxious but did not get to talk to him. It's super painful, because Meg was always so dutiful. "She feels like, 'That's the opposite of what I'm saying".

Venezuelan opposition readies US fund to receive oil revenue
Supply cuts by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and allies since January have been supporting prices. US sanctions on Venezuela's state oil company could also lift prices, though they have yet to trigger any sharp increase.

"Democratic voters have said in polls that their primary concern leading up to 2020 is selecting a candidate who can defeat Trump, and they're anxious that just as Trump was able to use Hilary Clinton's emails scandals and blow that into a big thing that was very damaging to her campaign, that he may use this claim of Elizabeth Warren's Native American ancestry as her Achilles' heel".

The formal start of Warren's White House campaign comes as the Democratic primary intensifies by the day, with numerous candidates including Sens. If he's back in the race, Warren will struggle to collect young liberal voters. Warren, 69, has made worker rights, fair wages and access to health care central to her campaign.

"Lawrence has a history of working people coming together to make change, where the fight was hard, the battle was uphill, and where a group of women led the charge for all of us", Warren said in a video promoting her announcement.

In short, Warren called on her supporters to help her build "an America that works for everyone". "I am in this fight all the way".

Rawding added that she's thrilled Warren chose Lawrence to launch her 2020 Democratic presidential run, particularly in wake of the deadly September gas explosions that impacted the city and surrounding communities. Later in the week, Warren plans to visit South Carolina, Georgia, Nevada and California. After all, Trump sure did not seem very electable at the outset - given his background and experience, flip-flopping on issues and coarse language.

One aspect of President Trump's policies that Ms Warren has remained fiercely critical of, is their immigration policy. And given that U.S. politics has been so unpredictable in the last three years, maybe Democrats should not dwell so much on electability, either.
