U.S. revokes visas of Venezuela assembly members

Even though Maduro is unlikely to ever wave the USA aid through, the U.S.is continuing to stockpile food and medicine at Venezuela's border with Colombia. People across the country have even begun to refer to their lack of food as the "Maduro diet", and have confronted him about it in public.

Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro said on Friday that he would not allow "fake" humanitarian aid to enter the country.

At the same time, Juan Guaido, the Venezuelan National Assembly leader recognized as the country's rightful leader by more than 30 governments, was attacking Maduro for refusing to admit the supplies and called for street protests Tuesday.

"We'll do everything we have to in a sovereign and autonomous manner to achieve an end to the usurpation, a transitional government and free elections", he said.

The Trump administration offered Guaido's interim presidency an initial $20 million in support and Guaido says the aid will come in through neighboring Colombia, Brazil and as yet unidentified Caribbean islands.

"The package is very nice on the outside: humanitarian aid". The first trucks of food to arrive at the distribution point on the border are enough to feed only 5,000 people for 10 days, according to the U.S. Embassy in Colombia, equivalent to less than 0.02 percent of the population.

No details have been released on exactly how the opposition plans to get the shipments into Venezuela.

It's unclear what will break the standoff playing out at the Venezuela-Colombia border.

"Brother, let the aid in".

"The armed forces have a huge dilemma, whether or not to accept the aid".

In fact, she kept learning about his health problems from news stories and was very anxious but did not get to talk to him. It's super painful, because Meg was always so dutiful. "She feels like, 'That's the opposite of what I'm saying".

Supporters of the military option cite the Maduro government's alleged involvement in illegal drug trafficking, as well the growing flow of Venezuelan economic refugees in the region as justification.

Maduro appeared on state TV Wednesday evening wearing a white lab coat demonstrating what he considers Venezuela's modern health care system in clinics countrywide - without mentioning attempts to block medical supplies at the border.

The 35-year-old argues Maduro was re-elected last year in a sham vote and the country must hold new presidential elections.

He also hit out at European and Latin American ministers who called for a new presidential ballot.

Opposition leader Juan Guaido, who requested the global assistance, said it is necessary in a country racked by shortages of basic goods. Several other countries - including Russian Federation and Turkey - are backing Maduro as the legitimately elected president, and have denounced Washington's actions as attempts to foment a coup.

The two men described a plot headed by opposition figure Julio Borges, a former president of Venezuela's National Assembly living in Bogota.

In response, Maduro announced he was severing "diplomatic and political" ties with the US, ordering all the USA diplomatic and consular personnel to leave the country in 72 hours.

Some 13 countries and the European Union (EU) gathered in Montevideo on Thursday to promote a "peaceful and democratic solution" to the Venezuelan crisis, said an EU senior diplomat.

Maduro also repudiated a statement issued by the International Contact Group on Venezuela. The meeting was attended by leaders of 14 other countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Sweden.
