President Trump says Democratic Party is now 'anti-Israel' and 'anti-Jewish'

After the House passed a resolution condemning anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and other types of hate on Thursday evening, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) released a joint statement with Reps.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California defended the resolution Friday in the face of GOP criticism that it had been watered down.

"The Democrats have become an anti-Israel party, they've become an anti-Jewish party", Trump said Friday. This post is not meant to relitigate those issues but to reach out to Jewish Democrats who agree that Omar's statements were anti-Semitic and who have been frustrated and hurt by the response of party leaders.

And as far as worldwide relations goes, Ms. Omar is in the finest of company, because one hears reports of French Jews immigrating to Israel in increasing numbers because of anti-Jewish sentiment and a disturbing number of attacks on Jews in the stylish and trend-setting nation of France. Elizabeth Warren of MA said, "Branding criticism of Israel as automatically anti-Semitic has a chilling effect on our public discourse and makes it harder to achieve a peaceful solution between Israelis and Palestinians".

"As illustrated by history and yesterday's overwhelming vote to condemn anti-Semitism, there is strong support for Israel and the Jewish faith among Democrats", congresswoman Elaine Luria, a military veteran who is Jewish, told AFP.

The vote on the resolution, which was delayed to include Latinos to its list of "traditionally persecuted peoples" targeted by white supremacists, was a reaction to the uproar caused by Minnesota freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar's criticism of Israel.

"We are having this debate because of the language of one of our colleagues - language that suggests that Jews like me, who serve in the United States and Congress, and whose father won a purple heart fighting the Nazis in the Battle of the Bulge that we are not loyal Americans". She suggested Israel's supporters were pushing lawmakers to take a pledge of "allegiance" to a foreign country, reviving a trope of dual loyalties.

Omar appeared to agree that it wasn't about her repeated anti-Semitic comments with the way she opened her official statement on the resolutions passage.

He went on to take aim at President Donald Trump for his campaign's closing TV ad during the 2016 race. "I think it strengthened it", she said at an event sponsored by the Economic Club of Washington, DC.

"Exhibit A of how politicians use the media as a straw man to avoid owning what they said", he wrote, adding, "Your tape...supports what I wrote 100%".

Rendell said Omar raises good points on issues like the treatment of Palestinians, "but she should make those points substantively".

"The president's own words have fueled the fire of intolerance and targeting of Jews, and Republicans have failed to condemn the president's remarks in the same way that Democrats were quick to rebuke Representative Omar". He remains in Congress, and on Thursday couldn't even bring himself to vote for the resolution condemning bigotry, instead marking himself as "present".

"Today is historic on many fronts". "Our nation is having a hard conversation".
