Trump defends 'Tim Apple' comment, says he was saving time

Even when there is clear video of him making a mistake, he apparently still won't admit it.

A day after Trump mistakenly referred to Cook at a White House meeting as "Tim Apple" - an understandable slip, perhaps, coming from the owner of the Trump Organization - Cook quietly altered his Twitter profile, replacing his last name with the Apple logo.

Trump made the "Tim Apple" remark as he talked to Cook and other members of the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board.

The "gaffe" wasn't the first time Trump has called a CEO by their company name.

"At a recent round table meeting of business executives, & long after formally introducing Tim Cook of Apple, I quickly referred to Tim + Apple as Tim/Apple as an easy way to save time & words", Trump tweeted on Monday.

Axios reported on Sunday that Trump lied to RNC donors about it and claimed to have said "Tim Cook Apple" really fast.

"We really appreciate it very much, Tim Apple".

By midmorning, the internet banter over the incident resurged, with "Tim Cook of Apple" trending heavily on Twitter, with roughly 17,000 mentions. Two donors at the event told Axios that they were baffled as to why Trump was even bringing it up because, as one of them put it, "it doesn't even matter!" "People like Tim, you're expanding all over and doing things that I really wanted you to right from the beginning", reads the transcript.
