Felicity Huffman, Lori Loughlin charged in college entrance bribery scheme

Among them were Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Huffman, best known for her starring role on TV show Desperate Housewives; actress Lori Loughlin, known for her work on the 80s comedy series Full House, and Loughlin's husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli. A confidential informant told investigators that he told Huffman he could arrange for a third party to correct her daughter's answers on the SAT after she took it.

According to ABC, the scam "centered around a man in California who ran a business helping students get into the college of their choice".

Coaches from Yale, Stanford, Georgetown, USC, Wake Forest and other schools were allegedly involved.

A law enforcement source confirms to CNN that Huffman was arrested in Los Angeles. They are each being indicted for allegedly bribing various elite colleges so that they could see their children admitted.

The indictment unsealed in Boston says 33 wealthy parents, including the two actresses, bribed college entrance exam administrators to get their children into Ivy-league and other high-profile schools. Loughlin and her husband allegedly agreed to pay $500,000 in bribes to get both of their daughters designated as potential crew team recruits for USC.

Federal prosecutors in Boston charged William (Rick) Singer, 58, with running the racketeering scheme through his Edge College & Career Network, which served a roster of clients, including CEOs and Hollywood actors. The indictment documents, for example, suggest Meredith accepted funds via a charitable organization and did not report any of the details of the plot to Yale officials, including payments.

The scheme involved coaches in soccer, tennis, volleyball and crew taking bribes to put students on lists of recruited athletes, despite any experience, so the students faced a lower standard of admission.

The payments ranged from $200,000 to $6.5 million, according to Andrew Lelling, the U.S. attorney in Boston, Massachusetts where the case was filed.

Parents charged in the alleged scheme are accused of paying an admissions consultant, William Singer, a total of $25 million between 2011 and February 2019 for the arrangement.

This story is still developing as the court documents continue to be reviewed.

Along with the parents, coaches and administrators of college entrance exams were also arrested.
