Former Smallville actress Allison Mack admits racketeering charges related to sex cult

Mack said that at the cult leader's instruction, she obtained compromising information and images of two unidentified women that she threatened to make public if they did not have sex with Raniere.

Court papers allege NXIVM formed a secret society of women who were branded with Raniere's initials and forced to have sex with him.

After months of reflection since her arrest, she said: "I know I can and will be a better person".

"I have come to the conclusion that I must take full responsibility for my conduct and that's why I am pleading guilty today", Mack told the court while choking up. I'm very sorry for the victims of this case.

The indictment released previous year claimed many so-called slaves were branded on their pelvic areas using a cauterizing pen with a symbol which, unbeknownst to them, incorporated Raniere's initials.

In February, a federal judge denied a third request for bail from Raniere, meaning he will remain behind bars until at least April 29 - the scheduled start of his trial on sex trafficking and forced labor charges.

With jury selection beginning at the federal case against a cult-like upstate NY group, TV actress Allison Mack pleaded guilty Monday to charges she manipulated women into becoming sex slaves for the group's spiritual leader.

Mack, along with two other defendants - former Nxvim bookkeeper Kathy Russell and Lauren Salzman, the daughter of Raniere's second-in-command Nancy Salzman - had been in "active plea negotiations" with prosecutors, according to the statement in court on March 18 by Assistant U.S. Attorney Moira Penza, reports the Associated Press.

Mack, who played Superman's friend Chloe Sullivan on The CW TV series, admitted to keeping a slave and instructing women "to perform services for me". She pleaded not guilty at the time.

Mack was released on a $5 million bond days after her arrest past year.

Raniere, who has been in custody since 2018, has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Online notes that if convicted, Allison could face 20 years of prison for each count she is charged with.
