Trump Orders Firing of US Secret Service Chief

Randolph "Tex" Alles has been removed from his post by President Donald Trump, and as CNN reports, he was "was told two weeks ago there would be a transition in leadership" but they wanted him to stay on until they found a suitable replacement.

Director of the United States Secret Service Randolph Alles meets with guests before speaking at the Atlanta Press Club in Atlanta, Feb. 1, 2018.

Following an incident last week, where a Chinese woman entered Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort carrying Chinese passports and a flash drive with malware, Trump said he "could not be happier" with the job the Secret Service is doing.

A senior administration official said Trump asked for Nielsen's resignation when the two met at the White House on Sunday.

Mr Alles' departure comes a day after DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen tendered her resignation under pressure over the situation at the US-Mexico border.

Her departure had been long rumored particularly after criticism of the administration's 2018 family separation policy at the border with Mexico and as USA border officials estimated that 100,000 migrants were apprehended at the southern border in March, the highest level in a decade. Alles reported to Nielsen.

Trump recently empowered adviser and immigration hardliner Stephen Miller to take charge of Team Trump's border policies "and he's executing his plan" by dismantling Homeland Security's leadership, the official said.

Per the report, DHS General Counsel John Mitnick and U.S. Citizienship and Immigration Services Director Francis Cissna "are expected to be gone soon".

Prior to running the Secret Service, Alles had served as the acting deputy commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection; he also served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, commanding Marine Aircraft Group 11 Third Marine Aircraft Wing and retired as a major general in the United States Marine Corps after serving in the Marines for 35 years.
