Marcus Smart officially out four to six weeks with torn oblique

The 21-year-old, who played his collegiate basketball at Duke University, was originally selected by Boston with the third overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft.

It was an inconsequential game for the Celtics, who had already wrapped up fourth place and home court advantage in the Eastern Conference, but Brad Stevens was looking to give his regulars some game time before the playoffs.

Smart, 25, is averaging 8.9 points, four assists and 2.9 rebounds this season, but what he does goes far beyond the numbers.

The Celtics may have lost a sparkplug for the first two rounds of the playoffs.

Naidu demands re-polling at locations where faulty EVMs marred voting
Union ministers V K Singh and Mahesh Sharma are BJP candidates in Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar, respectively. Polls will go as per schedule in the state, the Election Commission has said.

Expect Stevens to go with either Jaylen Brown or Gordon Hayward - former members of the Celtics' starting lineup - to replace Smart.

Smart re-signed with the Celtics last offseason on a four-year, $52 million deal. He is shooting a career-best 42.2 percent from the field, including another career-best 36.4 percent from 3-point range, and Smart is expected to be named to one of the league's All-Defensive teams for his work alongside Irving in Boston's backcourt. Smart would sustain the injury against the Orlando Magic on Sunday and was forced out of game action because of it. Trying to crash down into the paint on defense, Smart collided with Magic big man Nikola Vucevic and immediately crumpled to the ground in pain.

Smart was doing what he does best, sacrificing his body for a loose ball, before falling directly on his hip.
