PlayStation 4 users can finally change their online ID

You can check out the full list of games supported and impacted by PSN name changes here.

We've outlined the steps you need to take below. You are only able to select this option at the time you make the change.

How much does it cost and how many times can I change it?

The first change is free (choose wisely), and changes after that will cost $9.99 USD/CAD. The cost for each name change after your first one will be $9.99 United States dollars for normal PS4 users while it will be $4.99 for PlayStation Plus owners.

The name change feature was supposed to function with all games published after April 1, 2018, with games published before then showing the original online ID.

Keep in mind that there's a fee associated with changing your ID.

For the past few years, PlayStation users have pleaded with Sony to allow them to change their PSN IDs. You'll be able to make the change there.

Julian Assange Arrested In London
In 2006, Assange set up WikiLeaks that published classified documents on certain governments, including the US. He was holed up inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London for almost seven years.

Julian Assange may still face rape charge in Sweden, prosecutors say
In the UK Parliament Thursday, Home Secretary Sajid Javid outlined how court proceedings for extraditions play out in Britain. Westminster Magistrates' Court found him guilty of a British charge of breaching bail on Thursday.

The good thing is, users can choose to revert to any of their previous IDs without any charges. Going back to your old name will also be free. The old name will be displayed for 30 days.

In general, there are no restrictions to the number of times you can revert your online ID. Starting with the new feature, offensive usernames will be automatically changed to a temporary ID which can be later changed by the user. PlayStation recommends reading its list of tested games to check if the feature is supported as well as if it may cause any other issues. However, it will not be supported directly on older devices such as the PS3 or PS Vita. However, not all PS4/PS3/Vita games will support the new IDs. For example, a game that first launched back in 2013 that has since been re-mastered or re-sold as a "complete edition" in 2018 does not apply. Finally, we can all put an end to years of embarrassment, and change our PSN names. Let us know in the comments.

Do note that this feature is now in a preview program which means that you'll encounter bugs and issues here and there. Sony does not expect these issues to be common, but it is best to be aware of the problems that may occur.

The company say that users "may lose in-game currency whether paid for or earned", and could experience a "loss of game progress, including scores and progress toward trophy unlocking".

You'll also need to check out your games to make sure they still function properly after making the adjustment.
