Boy thrown from Mall of America balcony still hospitalized

Witnesses said Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, either pushed or threw the 5-year-old boy on Friday morning from the third level of the Bloomington mall's interior to the first-level floor almost 40 feet below, police said.

The man arrested for allegedly pushing or throwing a boy from the third floor of the Mall of America in Minnesota had been banned from the mall in the past and once told police he had anger issues, court records show.

A five-year old boy was rushed to the hospital Friday morning after police said a man threw him from a balcony on the third floor.

He said she was screaming, 'Everybody pray, everybody pray. "Oh my God, my baby, someone threw him over the edge, '" Brian Johnson said.

The man accused of the heinous act - identified as Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, - was later found hiding inside the mall's transit station.

In July 2015, Aranda was charged with causing damage inside stores after he threw items off the upper level of the mall to the lower level, according to court records obtained by WCCO (pdf).

Bloomington Police reported that the victim was 5 years old.

Son of sheriff's deputy burned 3 black churches, authorities say
An Associated Press reporter was turned away Thursday from what was believed to be the home the suspect shared with his parents. Matthews was interested in " black metal " music, authorities said, which has been linked to notorious church fires in Norway.

"At this time we do not believe there is a relationship between the suspect and the child or the family of the child, and we are actively investigating as to why this incident occurred", Potts said at a briefing just outside the mall.

Authorities described the injuries as life-threatening but he is in stable condition at Children's Hospital Minneapolis. "He was enjoying a day at the Mall of America with his mom and friend on Friday morning when a stranger maliciously grabbed him and threw him over the 3rd floor balcony for no apparent reason", the family friend continued.

Aranda has been banished from the mall in past years, though authorities said the trespassing holds had expired by Friday's incident.

"Every prayer for your family and your sweet little boy!" another couple posted a minute earlier.

Witnesses told police that the alleged attacker "took off running immediately after the incident". We have counseling services available for anyone who may need assistance.

This undated photo provided by the Bloomington, Minn., Police Department, shows Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, who was arrested in connection with an incident at the Mall of America where a 5-year-old boy plummeted three floors Friday, April 12, 2019, after being pushed or thrown from a balcony. He was charged in two previous incidents at the mall in 2015. In another case, Aranda assaulted a woman inside Twin City Grill after she refused to buy him food.
