Wisconsin firefighter shot and killed while responding to medical emergency

The shooting happened after police and firefighters responded to a medical emergency around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Valley Transit in downtown Appleton, fire and police officials said.

"I looked out the window and saw police flying", Appleton resident Michelle Berken told FOX 11.

A police officer and two other people were hospitalized following the shooting, the Appleton Fire Department said. The shooting left three others, including a police officer, injured. Representatives of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association responded to the scene, executive director Jim Palmer said. "And another shot was sacked and there was another male and he went down and I saw the shooter flee", Mourning said, according to the AP. I heard it again.

Lundgaard, a 14-year veteran of the Appleton Fire Department, was married and had three children.

Tori Mourning, a witness, told the ABC affiliate that at first it sounded like a lawnmower backfiring. I saw the guy shoot a female and she went down. 'Funeral arrangements for the firefighter are still pending.

Firefighters stood silently at the medical examiner's office as the procession began, just as they had when the body arrived in a flag-draped casket overnight.
